Yurt. Treehouse. Train. Lighthouse. Castle. With all the options available today why would anyone stay in a pricey hotel? As I search for honeymoon options I find myself veering away from your typical resorts discovering tropical tree houses with modern amenities and even astronomical outdoorsy hotels glowing in the moonlight. The possibilities are truly endless.

Just a few short years ago it required plenty of searching to find places like the aforementioned but AirBnb brings it all to you in one website. Needless to say I am a huge fan of AirBnB ever since my stay in Boston at a quaint little apartment 5 minutes walk from everything!

But for my honeymoon I am thinking outside the apartment or your average home. I want to experience something new and truly unique. So I at the moment I am exploring the idea of glamping. I am not a huge camping fan but I like the idea of it. My fiancé on the other hand is an outdoorsman. He hunts, was raised a farm boy, and hails from a small town where the only thing to do is go outside. I on the other hand veer from one extreme to the other – I am either traveling enjoying culture/food/exploration or I am a homebody. As for the great outdoors.. it’s lovely as long as there is flowing water nearby at my disposal. So glamping it is as this month’s focus for honeymooning ideas. I intend to make this a monthly series until we actually do go on our honeymoon.

1. Astronomical Hotel
Where: Paiguano, Coquimbo, Chile

This is an ideal getaway for any astronomical enthusiast or a romantic experience beneath the stars in your own fully equipped geodesic dome. With only 7 on property each with their own personal terrace it’s the ultimate getaway truly away from it all. Guided tours, telescope and horse rides are available for an extra nominal fee.

2. Ecological House
Where: Aix-en-Provence, France

Listed as an Earth House, this stay is equipped for outdoor living in the heart of Aix-en-Provence. Imagine tucking in after a long day of exploring the Provençal landscape with a local rosé and a few delicacies picked up from a nearby market.

3. Treehouse in Greece
Where: Amaliada, Peloponnisos Dytiki Ellada ke Ionio, Greece

A literal treehouse located on the beach with views of green landscapes, life in Greece couldn’t get much more relaxing.

4. Tofino Glamping
Where: Tofino, British Columbia, Canada

Tofino has been on my radar for a long while. It’s where Canadians go to surf, see wildlife and take in some of BC’s best seafood. Whale watching is big in May or if you’d rather eat the seafood you can check out one of their many food festivals during the summer months including Feast Tofino, also held in May.

5. North Shore Glamping
Where: North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii

Imagine picking your own papayas, limes and bananas all upon the same property where you are staying tucked in by Oahu’s highest mountain peak. Surfboards and snorkeling gear are included and who could resist this outdoor living all within 2 miles of surf town Haleiwa.

6. Train in Ireland
Where: Dunfanaghy, Donegal, Ireland

Located in the country not far from Cork this repurposed train would make the best honeymooning spot for a family. If you don’t know how much I loved Ireland, check out these posts. The castles, landscape and towns all capture the imagination of any age.

7. A Lighthouse in Belgium
Where: Maarkedal, Vlaams Gewest, Belgium

Okay you could argue that this isn’t glamping because it is so well renovated. It is pretty much a home but how cool is this? I couldn’t leave it out! Again it would be great for a a family newly united after a wedding with 6 beds and 2 bathrooms, one with a killer view!

8. Yurt in Switzerland
Where: Reinach, Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland

This spacious and oftentimes luxurious alternative to a tent is equipped with an indoor fireplace to keep you warm during the colder months. But if I visited Switzerland it would be in September as the tourist crowds thin out and the mountainside trails are less busy.

9. Treehouse in Jamaica
Where: Treasure Beach, St Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica

The laid back atmosphere has both my fiancé and I thinking hard about Jamaica. I loved Negril but this treehouse would make for one fun time on the beach. All we need is a bit of rum and sunshine.

10. Venice Airstream with optional tent
Where: Venice, California

Venice makes for a perfect summer getaway. The beach, locals, food and nearby activities for every interest is what draws me back. There’s also something about Airstreams, especially one as well renovated as this, that makes me want to hit the road and travel the US of A.
