As a Canadian I start planning my winter getaway as soon as summer arrives. I want to ensure the best deal but also the destination that suits my winter getaway desires. Sun, beach, drinks and culture, Mexico is all this rolled into one. Here’s a look at Mexico’s most popular beaches brought to you by Escapes.ca.

The prospects of travelling to Mexico is VERY enticing. The destination is an easy no-brainer for your travel bucket list, with its vibrant culture, sunny climate and (most importantly) incredible beaches! While the country possesses its fair share of beaches, each one is completely unique to that region. The hardest part is choosing where to go! Luckily our friends from Escapes.ca have given us this great list of some of the most popular beach destinations to check out.
PUERTO VALLARTA
This destination is known for: Great surf spots and lots of charming history.
Puerto Vallarta is a well-known destination found in Mexico’s West Coast region. Before its popular reputation with tourists, it possessed a vibrant past, being a thriving city. Today, travellers can still see a lot of the city’s abundant history – its charming colonial buildings and rustic cityscapes are still very much in tact. Unlike some of the country’s notable white-sand, blue water beaches, Puerto Vallarta offers a more rugged landscape with their crashing waves and golden beaches. This is a fantastic place for surfers looking to catch gnarly waves.
If you’re looking for that picture perfect Instagram photo to go with your #wanderlust hashtag, this is your kind of place! Puerto Vallarta is home to some of the most vibrant sunsets in the world.

LOS CABOS
This destination is known for: Whale Sharks and incredible rock formations.
Los Cabos is another popular West Coast destination in Mexico. This city is slightly smaller than other well-known all-inclusive destinations, making its atmosphere very intimate, while still offering great entertainment and dining options reminiscent of large cities. Travellers who are looking for a sun-drenched getaway will literally experience it when they travel here. Los Cabos has warm and sunny conditions all year round. In fact, Los Cabos gets an average of 300 days of sun every year! This destination is also the migration path for some of the largest yet most graceful animals in the world. With whale sharks being frequent visitors along their’ coastline, Los Cabos’ ecotourism gives travellers the opportunity to swim (literally) next to these graceful giants in a safe and mindful manner. Aside from their wildlife, it is is also home to the Lovers Arch – one of the most beautiful rock formations in the world. With pleasant temperatures, stunning wildlife and incredible landscapes, Los Cabos is a dreamy destination, perfect for any getaway.

CANCUN
This destination is known for: Their endless strip of mega resorts and white sandy beaches.
If you’re looking for endless fun, entertainment and a destination that is buzzing with energy, then Cancun might just be for you. Known as the hub of all major all-inclusive resorts, Cancun holds nothing back when it comes to world-class service, entertainment and luxury. The city is peppered with a plethora of all-inclusive properties, making it relatively easy to find accommodation. This is also a destination that possesses the classic Caribbean-style picture perfect beach of white sand and turquoise waters.

HONORABLE MENTION:
ISLA HOLBOX
This may be a destination that many travellers have yet to discover. While it may be a place that holds much mystery and elusiveness, we’re pretty certain that more travellers and tourists will take note of this hidden gem. Isla Holbox is located on the north coast of the Yucatan state. The island is relatively small (it’s only 40kms in length).
However, there are so many things to see, do and explore! The island is truly unique, moving away from the usual touristy elements that can be experienced in most areas around Mexico. The vibe here is very laid back and rustic. Popular shops, night clubs or restaurants are a rare find and we believe it adds to the destination’s unconventional atmosphere. More and more tourists are travelling to this beautiful oasis, so we recommend checking it out soon!

Great list! As scuba divers, Mexico is definitely on our bucket list. I’d love to dive the cenotes in Yucatan. Los Cabos sounds really great too, but I especially like less touristy places so thanks for the mention of Isla Holbox. Going to add that to our list! We all appreciate a good beach, right? I know I do! 🙂

I really want to visit Los cabos! It looks amazing! Another beach that I love around Cancun, is Tulum Beach. It’s way less touristy and it has the same beautiful colors!
Thanks for sharing!
Miguel.
The only Mexico travel I’ve done has been on cruise ships (meh) and Cancun for Spring Break (also meh). I like your version of Mexico MUCH better! These beaches look right up my alley.
I agree. Cancun leaves a lot to be desired. I enjoy traveling around and the freedom of walking to cultural centres or local spots. Cancun was just hotel after hotel.
Wow! These beach’s views look AMAZING. I am also searching for a place to go in this summer and I found your article. I think I will consider about this. Thanks for sharing with us!
